Comparison of the output power of a 2.45 GHz continuous wave magnetron using power meter and calorimetric measurements
Abstract
Output power of a typical 2.45 GHz continuous wave magnetron with power rating of 1.5 kW is investigated using power meter and calorimetric measurements. Actual output power as measured using a power meter is observed to be relatively lower in comparison to the input power as defined by the user. It is also observed that % deviation from the input power decreases with increasing input power—deviation ranges from 65 % for small value of input power to 8.5 % at high input power. With these observations, plot of output power, obtained using a power meter, vs input power of a 1.5 kW magnetron is generated to provide the necessary calibration for the given magnetron. Calorimetric measurements also conducted to confirm the power meter measurements agree with the predicted values of the generated experimental trend line. A minimum of 1.08 % deviation from the predicted values verified the reliability of the obtained calibration curve.
