Abstract

We obtain the network parameters and motif frequencies of 845 poems from 1522 to 1931. Analysis of the different network parameters shows a significant similarity exists among the Elizabethan, 17th Century, Romantic and Victorian eras with the Augustan era (1667-1780) distinct from the others. This is reflected in the network parameters and the convex hull and centroids of the motif frequencies for each era. This method can be used to classify the era of publication of poems especially in identifying poems published in the Augustan era.
