Investigating the effect of KCl and Bi2O3 fluxes on the composition and crystal growth of Bi2Sr2CaCu2Oδ+x
Abstract
In this work, we investigated the effects of KCl and Bi2O3 fluxes on Bi-2212 powders. For the sample prepared with KCl flux, SEM analysis revealed both rod-like and plate-like crystal morphologies. EDX results indicated that the rod-like structures were primarily CuO, while the plate-like structures corresponded to an off-stoichiometric BSCCO phase. The use of Bi2O3 flux promoted the formation of BiO-related phases, whereas KCl flux favored CuO-rich phases. A significant loss in Sr and Ca content was also observed. These results enhance the understanding of how flux type influences phase composition and crystal morphology in melted Bi-2212 systems.
