Concept graph-based custom-topic survey filters: Work-life balance in responses from ISSP Work Orientations IV survey
Abstract
Filtering in survey analysis is important to observe patterns over questions characterized by an underlying idea. We perform a filtering approach that leverages question framing, considering questions that are related to a topic based on a concept graph. Analyzing responses to questions relating to work-life balance from the 2015 Work Orientations IV survey of the International Social Survey Programme (ISSP) reveals clusters of countries with similar responses. Responses towards questions surveying actions performed to balance work and family life result to the clusters formed. We highlight differences in thematic insights extracted from survey data between our automated filtering scheme and human-curated selection. Future work can demonstrate the flexibility of our filtering scheme to uncover hidden topics in survey data.
