Abstract

The deformability of a self-gravitating body under the effect of an external tidal field is a question of central interest in gravitational physics. In this talk, I will review recent work on the question of whether a black hole can become tidally deformed, which has profound implications for fundamental physics, astrophysics and gravitational-wave astronomy.

About the Speaker

Alexandre Le Tiec, Observatoire de Paris

Alexandre Le Tiec is a theoretical astrophysicist working at the Paris Observatory in France. His research mainly concerns the physics of black holes and the modeling of the gravitational radiation generated by the relativistic orbital dynamics of binary systems of compact objects.
