Abstract

Optical imaging using visible light is an essential tool for textile characterization. However, there is a limited number of studies focusing on UV-based textile imaging. Here, a technique to characterize textile materials using UV light and a modified DSLR camera is presented. The basic setup can be easily customized for fluorescence imaging and UV photography. The effectiveness of the fluorescence imaging technique is demonstrated in the fast classification of material samples and in the evaluation of fabric density. Processing the fluorescence and UV photographic images further enhanced the differentiation of the material samples used. The technique can be a platform for developing more robust textile imaging applications.
