Abstract

An age-dependent Verhulst death factor was implemented using the Penna bit string model. Adaptation is simulated by decreasing the effect of carrying capacity at certain ages. We have shown that the sudden immunity to environmental effects produces population with greater size, higher diversity index, and extended lifespan. Older individuals are able to adapt to the environment.
