Abstract

In the conventional multiple-plane phase retrieval applied to smooth test objects, the small changes in the amplitude may result in slow convergence or stagnation in a local minimum. The use of object support constraint, as previously demonstrated in the single- and double-plane techniques, comprises additional change in amplitude but the fixed support strategy with circular or rectangular area may not be efficient and could lead to inaccurate reconstructions. In this study, a technique for accelerating the convergence rate of multiple-plane phase retrieval using adaptive support strategy is demonstrated through simulations and experiments. The adaptive strategy offers automatic and precise determination of the support area resulting in faster convergence compared to conventional multiple-plane method for the test object waves used.
