Time-stretching of a monochromatic Gaussian optical pulse in a step-index fiber
Abstract
We investigate the propagation of a single monochromatic Gaussian optical pulse in a step-index fiber. We numerically propagated the pulse in a 1m fiber using a 2-dimensional finite-difference time-domain (2D FDTD) algorithm. We observed that the halfwidth of the Gaussian pulse increased by approximately 70 times, indicating that the signal stretches in time.
