Abstract

Colloidal stability of Bi-2212 doped with 1% and 5% Y were studied using gravity settling experiments. Colloidal suspensions of 0.0041g of Bi-2212 with 1% and 5% Y in ethanol and 2 drops of KCl solution were subjected to gravity settling experiments. It was found out that the addition of KCl did not improve the stability of the colloid; hence, the most stable suspension was for the 0% KCl. From the SEM images, smaller grain sizes were calculated for Bi-2212 films without KCl and showed that coagulation occurred with the addition of KCl. The fabricated film was found to have a high c-axis orientation and Tc-onset of 65.55 K.
