Terahertz emission of zinc oxide-coated silicon
Abstract
We have shown that increasing the optical absorption of silicon via spray pyrolysis of Zinc oxide increases its terahertz emission by ~2.6 times. Results also show that aluminum doping on Zinc oxide increases its reflectivity, hence decreasing its optical absorption resulting to lower emission of terahertz radiation. The measured reflectance of the samples are 66% for the bulk Silicon, 4% for the Silicon deposited with Zinc oxide, and 57% for the aluminum-doped Zinc oxide on Silicon; corresponding to peak-to-peak terahertz time domain spectra signals of 3.86 pA, 9.985 pA, and 5 pA.
