Abstract

We propose a cellular automata (CA) model with block neighborhood to simulate a 1D granular system. Out of 264 possible CA rules, the one rule consistent with the conservation principles is derived as rule number 0xFEDC5A62D654C210. The algorithm is able to simulate shaken granular systems. We classify the resulting steady-state dynamics for different boundary conditions including reflecting walls and circular boundaries.
