Abstract

The Versatile Instrumentation System for Science Education and Research (VISSER) is a multidisciplinary project which aims to develop locally produced and cost effective instruments to be deployed to secondary schools all over the country. In this study, we looked into the effect of VISSER when we integrate them in the regular class schedule of two private schools and three public schools for one quarter of the school year. The Hake gain and post-test scores of classes using VISSER experiments in pilot tests show better understanding of science concepts compared to their non-VISSER counterparts. This shows that VISSER can be used to replace the traditional science experiments under the K-12 program and can also be used as an effective enrichment activity.
