Abstract

Experimental or Monte Carlo determination of radiation dosage in brachytherapy is necessary to optimize medical procedures for individual patients. In this study, the GATE simulation toolkit has been utilized to investigate the dose distribution in prostate brachytherapy. Differently-spaced 125I seeds were simulated inside the Zubal voxelized medical torso phantom. The results on dose uniformity plots, and its corresponding dose volume histogram, showed that for volume implantations, the 8mm seed-separation distance appears to be the optimal separation in producing uniform dose distribution.
