Side-pumped, prismatic-cell type configuration for amplification of ultraviolet femtosecond pulse in a micro-pulling down method-grown Ce:LiCAF
Abstract
A prismatic cell-type design is proposed for amplification of ultraviolet femtosecond pulse in a side-pumped, laser-quality Ce:LiCAF crystal grown via the micro-pulling-down (µPD) method. By providing uniform illumination to its 30-mm length and 2-mm diameter, the risk of damage to the nearly as-grown Brewster-cut crystal is dramatically reduced. We show that without implementing a chirp pulse amplifier scheme, nearly transform-limited ultraviolet femtosecond pulse at 290 nm is amplified 4 times. Our results thus demonstrate the potential of µPD-grown crystals for high-energy delivery of ultraviolet femtosecond pulses.
