Three dimensional simulation of electrons in a microwave-induced hexapole plasma device
Abstract
A three dimensional electromagnetic algorithm is created to investigate the Electron Cyclotron Resonance (ECR) plasma device present at the Plasma Physics Laboratory of the National Institute of Physics. The setup consists mainly of a 2.45 GHz microwave source and two sets of SmCo magnets arranged in a hexapole configuration. The algorithm is based on the Particle in-Cell (PIC) method. Cyclotron resonance was demonstrated for different magnetic field conditions, with single and multiple electrons. It was found that the microwave power is proportional to average electron speed.
