Identification of ambient particulate matter source direction using the conditional probability function

Abstract

This study uses the Conditional Probability Function to determine directions associated with high values of receptor model-generated source contributions at the Manila Observatory (MO). Wind measurements and 24-hour average fine and coarse fraction concentrations measured from 2005 to 2007 were used. Results for the fine fraction in both the dry and wet seasons show that crustal and combustion-related sources were more localized while biomass burning and seasalt were more affected by the prevailing monsoon. For the coarse fraction, only the seasalt source in the dry season seems to be affected by the prevailing monsoon. All the other sources seem localized.
