Variational iteration approach to evolution problems with positivity constraints: Application to diffusion equation

Abstract

In this paper, the variational iteration method is applied to diffusion problems. The limitations of the method with respect to the characteristics of the approximate solutions are discussed. A modification of the method is proposed to partially counteract these unwanted characteristics, aiming to make the method more useful in cases where truncation of the series solution is unavoidable.
