Abstract

MgB2 films on polycrystalline alumina and sapphire substrates were prepared by depositing a thin coating of mixed MgB2 powder and organic solvent on the substrates by spin coating. The deposited coatings where then annealed at 600 and 750°C in Ar atmosphere for 1 hour. X-ray diffraction analysis of the films confirms that single-phase MgB2 is formed on both substrates. SEM investigation shows a homogeneous polycrystalline film surface. High magnification micrographs evidently show hexagonal MgB2 crystals.
