Emerging structure in the network of Bill co-authorships in the Philippine House of Representatives
Abstract
Network analysis has been proven useful in terms of understanding underlying behaviors within networks. In this paper, the network structure of bill authorships and cosponsorships in the 13th Congress of the Philippine House of Representatives was analyzed. It was found that the network exhibited high clustering, with a clustering coefficient of 0.96, but short characteristic path length with a value of 1.02 between nodes. It was also observed that the number of papers per author has a central tendency and the number of authors per bill decreases with a power law exponent of 8.0E−5. The emerging structure of the network in terms of clustering and connectedness may be attributed to the existence of hubs in the coauthorship network. These hubs were found to be a consequence of the dependence of the node connections with the role each node portrays in the network.
