Abstract

We present a technique for the fabrication of Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8+δ films using liquid phase epitaxy where films are grown from a thin liquid-phase layer formed in between two substrates. Plateau-like islands resulted when MgO was used as bottom substrate and SrTiO3 as top substrate. Using MgO for both bottom and top substrate resulted in a more continuous film. The films exhibited layer-by-layer growth behavior and smooth surfaces. The island growths have height ∼10−25 μm. The results show that the present technique is a potential method for growth of thin films that are suitable for device fabrication.
