Abstract

This paper investigates the effect of varying amount of Zr on the physical properties of PbO-ZrO2-TiO2 system at 1100°C . Samples were characterized using different characterization techniques such as Differential Thermal Analysis (DTA), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), and porosity test. XRD data shows that increasing amount of Zr caused increase in formation of PTO rather than PZT. Among the composition studied, the sample with 0.2 mole fraction of Zr has the lowest melting point, highest porosity and lowest bulk density. At the said composition, XRD shows the occurrence of both PTO and PZT in large amount. Also, SEM images show the occurrence of stripy microstructure that could signify the inhomogeneous mixture of the two compounds.
