Development of a wireless telemicroscopy facility at the University of the Philippines, National Institute of Physics, Diliman Campus
Abstract
We present the results and experience of building a prototype Telemicroscopy Facility for user scenarios that would enable multiple connectivity solutions from a shared university laboratory location by combined feature use of wireless communication systems and computer networks at local and Internet scales. In this paper we also demonstrate the use of the latest wireless services available from telecommunications operators at the time of this writing, such as the Multimedia Messaging Service (MMS) to capture images remotely by hand phones and as well as the use of simple messaging system (SMS) for basic motion control through the use General Packet Radio Service (GPRS) all entirely GSM based connections.
