Abstract

Beta-Iron disilicide was prepared by unseeded vapor deposition in quartz ampoules at pressures of the order of 10-6 Torr. Scanning electron micrographs of the samples revealed a polycrystalline structure with facets that would characterize an orthorhombic lattice. EDX (energy dispersive x-ray) analysis showed a relative atomic composition of 1:2 for Fe and Si, confirming the expected stoichiometric ratio of FeSi2.
