Third-order MHD equation: Application to Hartmann flow
Abstract
Higher order MHD equations derived using the perturbation and projection formalism are applied to the Hartmann flow where we find velocity profiles flattening towards the center at the onset of instability. Comparison with velocity profiles in uniform magnetic fields shows a difference in the onset of turbulence consistent with observations where the magnetic field inhibits the onset.
