Chaos in diamagnetic helium Rydberg atoms

Abstract

We have observed a change in the level statistics of diamagnetic helium spectra. The transition from Poisson to Wigner statistics can be connected to change from regular to chaotic dynamics. Small deviations from Poisson statistics in the regular regime are attributed to the process of scattering at the core.
