Abstract

Optical amplification is reported on a 36 μm thick planar methyl red-doped nematic liquid crystal. Signal amplification is investigated for different pump intensities and pump-signal beam intensity ratios (PSR). A 17X maximum amplification is obtained for a pump intensity and PSR of 33 mW/cm2 and 98, respectively. This is the highest reported in the Philippines and comparable to those reported in the literature.
