Abstract

A fusion-spliced Fabry-Perot optical fiber sensor has been evaluated as a temperature or strain sensor. One of the Fabry-Perot reflections is a fusion-spliced TiO2 thin film while the other a coated cleaved end. This fabrication technique allows the construction of a short-cavity sensor which can provide relatively localized measurement of temperature or strain variations.
