Abstract

We report the design, construction and operation of a UV preionized transversely excited (TE) nitrogen laser. A cross-sectional view of the laser system and the excitation circuit is shown. The TE nitrogen laser was excited through an avalanche gas discharge driven by a capacitor transfer circuit. To operate at high pressures, an automatic preionization is incorporated in the circuit design.
