Difference equation solution of the linear Ising model with Jij=J|i-j|-2

Abstract

A difference equation technique is used to solve the one-dimensional Ising model with spin-spin interaction energy -∑i<j J|i-j|-2σiσj. The associated phase transition is thus established without the use of cluster expansions or matrix analysis.
