Jamming of heterogenous traffic due to lane changing
Abstract
Driver behavior plays an important role in the flow of traffic. Vehicles that change lanes often cause slow moving traffic in congested areas. In this work, we study the effects of lane changing on traffic throughput. We simulated roads with different lane changing probabilities to see how throughput of the road with two vehicle sizes. We found that higher lane changing probabilities benefit smaller vehicles such as motorcycles, but are detrimental to traffic when larger vehicles like cars are considered.
