Abstract

We calculate the radiation forces experienced by ellipsoidal particles illuminated by a Gaussian beam for varying parameters. As the particle is elongated in the axial direction with an aspect ratio along the x-z plane greater than two, it becomes harder to trap the particle. Low refractive index difference (Δn = 0.09) and long wavelength (λ0 = 1060 nm) enables the trapping of an ellipsoidal particle.
