Bird call characterization using music networks
Abstract
We create music networks for 305 different bird calls using actual recordings converted to MIDI format. The notes are used as nodes and the adjacent notes are connected via network edges. We characterize the networks using the following network attributes: number of nodes, number of edges, average clustering coefficient, density, and average shortest path. The bird networks were determined to be small-world networks, and the motifs occurring in them were listed and ranked according to the number of occurrences.
