Determination of the energy bandgap of undoped ZnO using Swanepoel’s analysis of optical transmission spectrum
Abstract
The study aims to compute for the energy bandgap of undoped zinc oxide (ZnO) thin film. The thin film was deposited on a glass substrate through spray pyrolysis. Its optical and structural properties were obtained via UV-Vis spectroscopy and x-ray diffraction. The deposited thin film has a hexagonal wurtzite structure with a preferred orientation along the c-axis. The energy bandgap of 3.47eV was analytically determined using Swanepoel’s analysis of optical transmission spectrum. The study is delimited only to undoped ZnO, and it is then recommended to study the properties of doped ZnO.
