Demonstration of collisional energy transfer in He-Ne glow discharges through optical emission spectroscopy
Abstract
Optical emission spectroscopy was used to study He, Ne and He-Ne glow discharges as a means to further understand the energy transfer mechanisms of a He-Ne laser. This was done by analyzing the emission spectra of the negative glow region of pure He and pure Ne as functions of gas pressure and the spectra of He and Ne mixtures as a function of partial pressures. Energy resonant transfer between the Ne and He states was observed by the increase in the Ne line intensities despite having a constant He pressure in a He-Ne discharge.
