State of Physics programs in Philippine higher education
Abstract
In 2011 the Commission on Higher Education Technical Committee for Physics and a pool of technical assessors visited more than 20 schools around the Philippines offering Physics programs. The aim of the visits was: (1) to check for compliance to CHED Memorandum Order No. 20 s. 2007 or the Minimum Policies and Standards for BS Physics and BS Applied Physics Programs, (2) to determine how many Ph.D.s in Physics are needed and where, and, (3) to gather baseline information for policies concerning MA Physics programs. The paper shall report factual data, discuss common problems, and highlight best practices among schools.
