Radiation forces exerted on a microsphere by a broadband Gaussian beam
Abstract
We present the calculation of radiation forces generated by the interaction of a polystyrene microsphere with a Gaussian beam with a broad frequency spectrum. Increasing the spectral bandwidth of the Gaussian filter while keeping the incident power constant lowers the net axial force by about one order of magnitude for all central wavelengths but are still sufficient to overcome forces that result to Brownian motion. Restoring axial forces directed towards the focus are achieved for -2μm < z0 < 0μm and z0 > 4 μm.
