Atmospheric microwave plasma cleaning of oil-contaminated aluminum surface
Abstract
An alternative way of cleaning industrial metal equipment aside from chemical cleaning is plasma cleaning. In this study, oil-contaminated aluminum surface was cleaned using an argon atmospheric microwave plasma jet. Using contact angle measurement, the decrease in contact angle for longer treatment time indicates that the contaminated surface was cleaned after 120 s of treatment. In addition, UV-VIS results show the decreasing concentration of remaining oil contamination for longer treatments. FTIR spectra of the plasma-treated sample verified the oil removal by the disappearance of the CH peaks associated with oil.
