Measuring initial beliefs and attitudes of some students towards Physics
Abstract
This study presents a profile of the initial beliefs and attitudes of students from the Philippine Normal University, Manila, taking Physics courses at the beginning of Academic Year 2011-2012, using the Colorado Learning Attitudes about Science Survey (CLASS). Results show that students under BS program, physics majors, DOST scholars, students from public science high schools, male students, first year Physics majors, students from Northern Luzon, and students with PC but no web displayed higher favorable responses towards physics. A disturbing result was the decrease in physics majors’ attitudes over years in college.
