Bacterial inhibition of UV-irradiated stainless steel coated with ZnO of different thickness
Abstract
Zinc oxide thin films on stainless steel substrates have been fabricated via electrophoretic deposition. Time was varied during deposition to see how it would affect the morphology and thickness of film. Structural features and surface morphologies were studied by XRD and SEM. Photocatalytic property of ZnO was also examined against Staphylococcus aureus. Results suggest that ZnO exhibit anti-bacterial properties, which is enhanced with thicker layer and under UV illumination. The increase in deposition time accounted for increased thickness of ZnO.
