Electron temperature measurement of Argon discharge in a streaming neutral gas injection hollow cathode using optical emission spectroscopy
Abstract
The optical emission spectra of argon discharges both in normal and contracted glow discharges in a streaming neutral gas injection hollow cathode system have been measured. The electron temperatures for both modes were calculated from the emission spectra using the corresponding Boltzmann plots. The electron temperatures for normal and contracted glow discharges are found to be at 0.54 eV and 0.45 eV respectively for the 10 mA discharge and 0.77 eV and 0.35 eV for the normal and contracted modes of the 50 mA discharge. Results are consistent with typical temperature values for d.c. glow discharges produced under low pressure and low power with the contracted glow discharge producing a relatively lower electron temperature than the normal glow discharge.
