Route efficiency of the Kaliwa and Kanan Jeepneys in University of the Philippines Los Baños
Abstract
In the University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB), jeepneys take two routes upon entering the campus, namely the Kaliwa and Kanan. In this study, we determined the more efficient route in various stops around the UPLB campus. The time the jeepney takes to travel in-between stops and the whole route was computed using Kinematic equations and Monte Carlo method. Constant and random values for stop time, loading and unloading capacities in each route were also considered. Results show that the stop time is an important factor in the total travel time for jeepneys in both routes. Increase in stop time increased the travel time at an average of 12.86% and 13.54% for the Kaliwa and Kanan routes respectively. The Kaliwa and Kanan routes resulted in longer travel time values with an average increase of 17.60% and 21.72% respectively when the loading and unloading capacities were included in the total travel time equation.
