Electrodeposition of Au nanostructure array using Anodized Aluminum Oxide for template transfer
Abstract
A cheap and fast method of fabricating Anodized Aluminum Oxide (AAO)-patterned Au nanodots via electrodeposition was done. The n-type silicon (100) substrates with AAO templates were electrodeposited with gold (Au) nanoparticles via pulsed deposition with varying frequency and duty cycle. The reflectivity spectrum was fitted with the Maxwell-Garnet theory to determine the size of the gold nanoparticles. Frequencies of 600 Hz, 800 Hz, 1000 Hz and 1200 Hz produced Au particles with diameters of 2.52 nm, 3.15 nm, 3.36 nm and 3.70 nm respectively, while duty cycles of 30%, 40% and 50% produced gold nanoparticles with diameters of 2.65 nm, 2.52 nm and 2.07 nm respectively. The relationships of duty cycle and frequency to the particle size was attributed to the length and frequency of Toff, allowing the substrate to discharge built up electrons and preventing further deposition of gold.
