Low temperature growth of indium oxide (In2O3) nanoarrows and nanowires on glass substrates
Abstract
This paper reports the growth of In2O3 nanoarrows and nanowires via thermal annealing of gold indium (AuIn) films deposited on glass substrates. Growth parameters such as annealing temperature and AuIn film thicknesses (single layer to multi-layered) are varied in the experiment. Nanoarrows are observed to grow along the edges of the substrates while nanowires are formed in urchin-like features. The formation of these nanostructures is suggested to be a result of Au-catalyzed solid-liquid-solid (SLS) growth. Possible growth processes involved in the formation of the nanostructures are proposed and are discussed in detail. The results show the feasibility of the growth technique to produce nanostructures that are commonly studied for biochemical sensing and field emission applications.
