Abstract

Among Southeast Asian nations, the Philippines has lagged behind in terms of astronomy development. As an inspiring and highly technical field, astronomy possesses a great potential for spurring the growth of science and technology in the country. In this paper, we discuss the current state of astronomy in the academe and general public. We also discussed the challenges being faced in developing astronomy on various levels, as well as potential areas for development and opportunities. It is the aim of this paper to propose a plan for astronomy development and obtain support from various institutions in the academe and government.
