Abstract

Vortex beams are often generated with the use of computer generated holograms (CGHs). In this work, we compare the generated beams from incomplete CGHs and incomplete vortex phases. We compare the intensity profile and topological charge ℓ of the resulting beams using the diffraction from a cylindrical lens. Our results show that ℓ is conserved when using incomplete holograms whereas it is not preserved with incomplete phases.
