Application of polarization filtering to heterodyne electro-optic sampling for efficient terahertz wave detection
Abstract
This paper reports application of "polarization filtering" to the heterodyne electro-optics sampling for efficient terahertz pulsed wave detection. In the conventional polarization filtering detection, several quartz substrates aligned at Brewster angle have been used to filter-out the S-polarization component in the probe beam. However, such an optics is bulky and complicated. On the other hand, such polarization optics is not necessary and a rotatable polarizer is enough to apply the polarization filtering to the heterodyne EO sampling of THz waves. In this paper, enhancement of THz heterodyne EO sampling signal by a rotatable polarizer is experimentally demonstrated and the results are theoretically analyzed.
