Abstract

Associations between cholera incidence and soil wetness values in the Philippines were examined in this study through the use of satellite-derived data and the correlation statistics. The objectives of the study were to (1) describe the weekly soil wetness and cholera incidence in the Philippines during the last quarter of 2021 and 2022, and (2) explore the relationship between the aforementioned variables during the last quarter of 2021 and 2022. Results show that soil wetness may be associated or a predictor of cholera incidence. Although additional variables can be added to improve the disease-index relationships, the correlation heat map model was also able to indicate time delays between the impacts of soil wetness on cholera incidence. Thus, this work can be utilized to comprehend the patterns and contributions of soil wetness to cholera incidence over time.
