Fabrication and characterization of chitosan films from crab shell waste
Abstract
We report the successful fabrication of chitosan films extracted from crab shell waste. Four major steps were involved in the extraction of chitosan: demineralization, deproteination, depigmentation, and deacetylation. Extracted chitosan was dissolved in a solvent and placed in a plastic container to fabricate a film. The film exhibited hydrophilicity with a recorded static contact angle of 58.61°, and solubility was recorded to be 17% with a swelling degree of 365%.
