A three flavor model for the neutrino oscillation phenomenon
Abstract
Neutrino oscillation is a phenomenon in which a neutrino that is produced and measured to have a specific flavor (electron, mu or tau) can later be measured having a different flavor. A study done by Sassaroli provided a description for this phenomenon albeit in only two flavors. However, current research provided evidences of oscillations into tau neutrino. Hence, this study aims to provide a three flavor description of the neutrino oscillation phenomenon by employing the methods in Sassaroli's work. Coupled Dirac equations were used to describe the three flavor system and by solving these equations we obtained energy eigenvalues that may be complex in nature and an expression for each flavor wave function at each energy eigenvalue.
